Doors, locks and security
Doors, handles, locks, hardware, latches, hinges and draught proofing. A door that shuts properly is both warmer and more secure.
What this covers
Repairing and adjusting external and internal doors and their hardware, changing locks and cylinders, and draught proofing around frames and thresholds.
Two things tend to go together here. A door that has dropped is harder to lock, and a lock that is being forced every day is the one that eventually fails.
Common jobs
- Locks, cylinders and handles changed, including after a move or a lost key
- Multipoint mechanisms adjusted, and failed ones replaced
- Doors that have dropped re-hung and re-aligned to the keeps
- Hinges, latches, letterplates, spy holes and door chains renewed
- Draught proofing and weather seals around frames and thresholds
- Patio and French door alignment, and sliding door rollers
- Bolts and window locks fitted to outbuildings, gates and side doors
How we approach it
We start with how the door sits, because most lock problems are alignment problems. Getting the door right often fixes the lock without changing it.
Where hardware is being replaced, we tell you what standard the new part meets and leave you the paperwork and spare keys.
Where a lock is stiff rather than failing, we will service it and say so, rather than selling you a new one.
What we will tell you honestly
We will not talk about break-ins to sell hardware. If your locks are sound, we will tell you they are sound.
Some insurers specify particular lock standards. If your door does not meet what your policy asks for, we will point it out and let you decide what to do.
Alarms, cameras and anything needing an electrical connection are not ours to install. That sits with a specialist and we will say so.
Book a visit
We will check how the doors sit as well as what the locks do, and put a written price to the work. The visit and the quote are free, with no obligation afterwards.
