Repairs and adjustments to timber that is already there, working with the existing materials and finishes rather than replacing them.
What this covers
Doors that stick or catch, skirting, architrave and trims, sticking drawers, and small bespoke pieces made to fit an awkward space.
In an older house the timber is usually better than anything sold to replace it. Most of this work is about persuading it to do its job again.
Common jobs
- Internal doors eased, re-hung and re-hinged so they shut cleanly
- Skirting, architrave and trims repaired, refitted or matched in
- Drawers and runners freed, and drawer fronts re-fixed
- Cupboard doors realigned and their hinges adjusted or renewed
- Stair treads, spindles and handrails made firm again
- Small bespoke pieces: a shelf into an alcove, a boxing in, a fitted panel
- Rotten sections of external timber cut out and let in rather than wholly replaced
How we approach it
We match what is there. Profiles, timber and finish are chosen to sit with the rest of the room rather than to be the cheapest available.
A door that sticks has a reason, and it is often the hinges or the frame rather than the door. We find the reason first, because planing a door that did not need planing cannot be undone.

What we will tell you honestly
Some profiles are no longer made. Where an exact match is not possible we will say so, and set out the options: a close match, a made piece, or leaving it.
If timber has gone too far to repair, patching it is a temporary answer at best, and we would rather tell you that than take the smaller job.
Painting and staining to a finished decorative standard sits with our managed work rather than here, and we will say when that is what a job really needs.
