Gutters and drainage
A part blocked gutter does not look blocked. A winter of water down the wall is what stains render and softens window frames.
What this covers
Clearing gutters and downpipes, resealing joints that have opened up, re-fixing brackets that have pulled away from the fascia, and checking gullies and surface drains at ground level.
Booked in September or October it is usually a short, dry job. Booked in January, after water has been running down a wall for weeks, it is a different piece of work with more to put right.
Common jobs
- Gutters cleared of moss, silt and leaf debris, and the runs checked for standing water
- Leaking joints and unions resealed
- Loose or dropped brackets re-fixed, and sagging runs brought back to fall
- Downpipes cleared and re-clipped to the wall
- Gullies and surface drains cleared, and gully gratings freed or replaced
- Water staining traced back to the cause rather than simply cleaned off
How we approach it
We look at the whole run rather than the one visible problem, because a gutter that overflows at one corner is often blocked somewhere else entirely.
We check where the water is actually going, at the joints, at the downpipe and at the gully, and we tell you what we found rather than only what we did.
Debris we take out is bagged and left tidy. Where there is enough of it to need taking away, that is priced separately and shown on the quote.
What we will tell you honestly
If a gutter is old enough that clearing it will only buy a season, we will say so, and price both the clear and the replacement so you can choose.
Some things are not ours to do. Where a run cannot be reached safely from a ladder, or where the drainage problem is below ground, that needs different equipment and we will tell you plainly rather than making an attempt at it.
And if it does not need doing this year, that is a perfectly good answer too.
