Fencing and gates
Most fence failures happen in the first big winter wind, almost always at a post that was already soft at the ground line.
What this covers
Posts, panels, gates, latches and hinges. Re-fixing what has worked loose, replacing what has rotted, and getting gates to swing and shut properly again.
Re-fixing a post before the storms is far less work than lifting a panel out of a neighbour’s garden afterwards, and it usually costs less as well.
Common jobs
- Leaning or rocking posts re-set, or replaced where the base has gone
- Panels re-fixed, refitted or replaced individually
- Gates eased, re-hung and adjusted so they close on the latch
- Hinges, latches, bolts and gate stops renewed
- Gravel boards and post caps replaced where water is getting in
- Storm damage made safe and then repaired properly
How we approach it
We check every post along the run, not only the one that is obviously leaning, because the ground line is where fences fail and it is easy to miss the next one along.
Where a fence can be repaired we repair it, and we keep to the existing style so a mended section does not announce itself.
Where a fence sits on a boundary, we will talk to you about the neighbour’s side before anything is moved.
What we will tell you honestly
If a fence has more failed posts than sound ones, patching it is money spent twice. We will say that, and price the repair and the replacement side by side.
We will not guess at where a boundary runs. If ownership of a fence is unclear, that is a conversation to have with the neighbour first, and we are happy to wait.
Removing an old fence produces waste. That is priced separately and shown on the quote, never assumed.
