Gutters and drainage
Gutter cleaning and repair in Coventry
Most of the gutters we are asked to clear have something else wrong as well: a joint, a bracket, or a run that no longer falls towards the downpipe. Clearing alone only moves the problem to the next heavy rain.
What this covers
Clearing, resealing and replacing gutters, downpipes, fascias and soffits, and clearing the gullies they drain into. At the visit we tell you whether yours needs clearing, repairing or re-hanging, and we price that, not all three.
We look at the whole run, front and back, not only the corner that is overflowing.
Common jobs
- Gutters cleared by hand and flushed through
- Leaking and dropped joints resealed or renewed
- Brackets replaced and the fall put back
- Downpipes cleared, re-clipped or replaced
- Gullies dug out and checked
- Fascia and soffit repairs where water has got behind
What Coventry houses do to gutters
In Earlsdon, Styvechale and Cheylesmore, a lot of the housing is interwar, with deep eaves and mature trees on the street and in the garden. Those gutters fill faster than their owners expect, and often twice a year, not once.
On the older terraces, the back of the house is the awkward part. A rear addition with its own short gutter, feeding a downpipe shared with next door, is where most of the trouble starts, and it is often only reachable through the house.
On the postwar estates, Allesley Park and Mount Nod among them, the original plastic guttering is now at the age where joints drop and brackets let go. That is usually a repair, not a replacement.
When the problem is next door
On a terrace or a pair of semis the gutter is one continuous run across two or more houses. A blockage or a dropped joint on a neighbour’s side will overflow on yours. We will tell you when that is the cause, so you know who to speak to before paying for work that cannot fix it.
Access and parking
No side access, a conservatory under the run, or a street where the van cannot sit outside all change how the job is done. Some runs need a tower in place of a ladder. We work that out at the visit and state any extra cost separately, so the price you are given is the price.
Before the weather turns
Gutters are easiest to put right in dry weather, before the leaves have finished falling into them. Water running down a wall all winter usually leaves something you can see indoors by spring.
Our Winter Ready checklist sets out what is worth doing before autumn and what it costs to leave.
