Nuneaton, estate by estate
Most of our work is here, and the estates are different enough from one another that the same job is not the same job twice.
St Nicolas Park and Horeston Grange
The lake-named streets, Windermere, Grasmere, Langdale, Ambleside, and the roads around them. Largely nineteen sixties and seventies estate housing, much of it now on its second or third set of gutters.
The trees planted when the estate went up are mature now, which is why gutters here fill faster than the age of the house would suggest. Half a square of plastic gutter and a dropped joint is the commonest call we get from this postcode.
Weddington and the north
Interwar and postwar semis giving way to newer building as you go up towards Higham Lane and Castle Road. Original timber windows and doors survive on more houses here than anywhere else in town, which is worth saying because they are usually repairable rather than replaceable.
Whitestone and Attleborough
Two different jobs in one direction. Whitestone is mostly postwar and later, straightforward access, standard profiles. Attleborough is older and tighter, with terraces where there is no side access at all, so fence panels and long lengths of guttering have to come through the house or over the top.
We work that out at the visit rather than on the day, because a job that needs two people and a different route is a different price and you should know before we start.
Camp Hill, Stockingford and Galley Common
A mix, from Victorian and Edwardian terraces through to houses built in the last few years on the redeveloped land. Cast iron downpipes still turn up here. They can usually be saved, and where they cannot we will say so plainly rather than replacing the lot as a matter of course.
What we do most of here
Parking and access
On the older terraced streets we will ask where the van can sit before the day rather than turning up and blocking someone in. It sounds like a small thing. It is the difference between starting at eight and starting at half nine.
