Shelving and fixings
The fixing matters more than the bracket, and getting it right depends on what the wall actually is.
What this covers
Shelving, wall fixings, television mounting, mirrors, blinds, curtain poles, and installations onto walls that make all of that harder than it looks.
Plasterboard, lath and plaster, dot and dab, thermal board, solid brick and old lime plaster all want different fixings. The bracket in the box usually assumes the easiest of them.
Common jobs
- Shelving fitted level, including into alcoves that are not square
- Televisions mounted, with cables managed and the mount matched to the wall
- Heavy mirrors and pictures hung securely
- Blinds and curtain poles fitted, including deep or awkward reveals
- Coat hooks, rails, handrails and bathroom fittings fixed properly
- Flat pack furniture assembled and, where it needs it, secured to the wall
- Failed or pulled out fixings made good and refitted
How we approach it
We find out what the wall is before we drill it, and we check for cables and pipes as a matter of course.
The fixing is then chosen for that wall and for the weight it is carrying, with a sensible margin. Where the supplied fixings are not up to it, we say so and use something that is.
We work to a level and a line, we clear up the dust, and we tell you what the shelf will safely hold.
What we will tell you honestly
Sometimes the wall cannot take what you want to put on it. Where that is the case we will say so and offer the alternatives, which may mean a different position or a different fitting.
We will not hang something heavy off a fixing we do not trust to be there in five years.
Where a fitting needs a power or aerial point moving, that is an electrician’s job and we will tell you rather than working around it.
Book a visit
Tell us what needs putting up and roughly what it weighs. We will look at the wall and put a written price to it. The visit and the quote are free, with no obligation afterwards.
